The preservation of wooded areas around the recreational spaces helps reduce potential noise and lighting nuisances to the neighbourhood and creates a green screen around recreational spaces.
Master Plan: Henri-Bourassa Park
Details
Our firm developed the master plan for Henri-Bourassa Park for which the main objective was to overcome functional and security issues and adapt the park’s design to current and future uses. In addition, our programming for the site creates a green corridor and brings major institutions of the area together.
Following the development of scenarios to support ‘Convercité’s’ approach to citizen consultation, an iterative design process involving borough and elected officials led to the creation of a definitive spatial program that met the concerns and needs of citizens.
The site is designed around a football field and structured according to Richard Buckminster Fuller’s projection map concept. The master plan for the park unifies diverse programming into a single recreational area, while giving it a campus feel and ensuring the integration of different activities. Various spaces dedicated to different activities are articulated around the football field and a new park pavilion.
The project includes a series of interventions aimed at reintegrating different zones in the park, creating a public square and improving existing sports and playground facilities. The preservation of wooded areas around the recreational spaces helps reduce potential noise and lighting nuisances to the neighbourhood and creates a green screen around recreational spaces. The safety and movement of pedestrians, bicycles and cars are reinforced by circulation spaces around the park. Our long-term vision for the park will make it a safer and more user-friendly place that reflects the needs of the population.
