Cabot Square Revitalization
Details
In collaboration with the architecture firm Affleck + de la Riva and the engineering consulting firm Cima+, Fahey et associés was mandated by the Ville-Marie Borough to review the programming of activities and facilities in the Cabot Square area located in the western portion of downtown Montreal. The objectives were to preserve the canopy of mature trees, which is a predominant feature of the square.
The main components of the plan included the widening of sidewalks, the redesign of pedestrian paths and the creation of large vegetated areas surrounded by street furniture. The plan provided a simple and effective solution to benefit the site’s users. Additionally, the plan highlighted the central monument, the renovation and conversion of the former kiosk into a community café. The creation of a large multipurpose space for the installation of a mobile stage and the use of a permeable tiling with a high reflectance index were other strategies to add value to this urban jewel. Today, Cabot Square is an original, attractive and safe urban space that Montrealers can be proud of.
